About Panama

The Republic of Panama commonly known as Panama is the southernmost country of Central America. A transcontinental country, its isthmus constitutes the southernmost part of a natural land bridge between the continents of North America and South America. It borders Costa Rica to the west, Colombia to the east, the Atlantic Ocean to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south.
By 1999, Panama controlled the Panama Canal that links the North Atlantic Ocean via the Caribbean Sea with the North Pacific Ocean.

Politics of Panama takes place in a framework of a presidential representative democratic republic, whereby the President of Panama is both head of state and head of government, and of a pluriform multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government.

Panama's economy is service-based, heavily weighted toward banking, commerce, and tourism, because of its key geographic location. The handover of the canal and military installations by the US has given rise to new construction projects.

Panama's political divisions are 9 provinces, 75 districts or municipalities, 5 indigenous comarcas, and 620 "corregimientos."

Panama offers a high quality of life at affordable prices, and a spectacular environment.

Entertainment
Panama City is very much a 24-hour place, whose residents like nothing better than to eat, drink and dance into the early hours. Most of the upmarket places for nightlife are around the El Cangrejo area. Cinema is very popular, and the latest Hollywood blockbusters are usually shown in English with Spanish subtitles. Casinos can be found in major hotels, including El Panama, Granada and Soloy.
Local Attractions
The old colonial city centre of San Felipe (also known as Casco Viejo) is the most picturesque and historically interesting part of Panama City, home to many of its most important buildings, several museums, crumbling colonial churches and quiet squares filled with monuments.
